• Zantac: Zantac and ranitidine have been used for decades to treat symptoms of acid reflux.  However, studies have shown that Zantac and ranitidine are linked with an increased risk of cancer.  Zantac and ranitidine products may be contaminated with high levels of NDMA which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified as a probable human carcinogen.
• Talcum Powder: The use of talcum powder by women in the perineal, or genital area, has been associated with an increased risk of ovarian cancer.  In addition, the use of talcum powder by women or men may cause mesothelioma due to contamination of talc with asbestos fibers.
• Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs); Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) such as Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid, are available both as prescription and over the counter to treat acid-related disorders of the upper gastrointestinal tract.  PPIs have been linked to Acute Interstitial Nephritis (AIN), which causes kidney disfunction potentially requiring a kidney transplant.  PPI’s may also cause gastric and stomach cancer.
• Opioids: Opioids like OxyContin, Vicodin, and others can provide critical pain relief for many in the proper setting.  However, due to the highly addictive nature of these drugs, opioid abuse has reached epidemic proportions in the United States.  We are investigating cases involving opioid related deaths and overdose requiring hospitalization, as well as cases involving Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), where babies suffer from opioid withdrawal and may experience long term complications.
• Hernia Mesh: Physiomesh is used for hernia repair and is intended to prevent future hernias after surgery.  Studies have found that physiomesh may lead to serious complications such as hernia recurrence, organ perforation, sepsis, and death.
• IVC Filters: Retrievable IVC filters are wire devices implanted in veins to prevent blood clots from reaching the heart.  Retrievable IVC filters pose risks that are not associated with permanent IVC filters, including embolism, organ damage, and death.
• JUUL Vaping Devices: Vaping devices were initially thought of as a safer alternative to smoking cigarettes.  However, the use of vaping devices has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, especially among teenagers and young adults.  Use of these products has been linked to breathing problems, seizures, nicotine poisoning, nicotine addiction, and other serious health conditions.
• Drugs Associated with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: Several prescription and over-the-counter drugs including Advil, Motrin, Aleve, and Tylenol are associated with a severe and potentially fatal skin disease known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
• Belviq: On Feb. 13, 2020, the FDA requested that weight-loss drug Belviq and Belviq XR be removed from the market and instructed users to immediately stop taking these drugs.  Based upon the results of a recent clinical trial, Belviq is associated with an increased risk of contracting various cancers, primarily pancreatic, colorectal, and lung cancer.
